To continue to receive troubleshooting assistance from the CIT HelpDesk after May 2012:
- Windows users will need to upgrade to Windows 7.
- Mac users will need to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion—available July 2011).
CIT suggests that units move toward replacement of computers that will not be able to run supported operating systems. In addition to support issues, these computers are likely to become increasingly incompatible with Cornell IT services.
To verify a particular computer’s ability to be upgraded, please see:
Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/system-requirements
Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard): http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion): http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html
How to Get Windows 7
The Microsoft Campus Agreement currently allows Cornell University staff, faculty, and affiliates* to download selected Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems and install them on computers owned by Cornell University and its affiliated institutions at no cost. Computers must have been initially purchased with a licensed version of Windows to qualify. For more information, visit:

How to Get Snow Leopard or Lion
An upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard costs $29, as does a multicomputer upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion. For more information about Mac OS X upgrades and pricing, please contact the Cornell Store Technology Connection:
